DH, DS, my sis and I went to Peru this fall. What a lovely country! Traveling by car was easier than expected and LAN peru ROCKS as an airline. The high altitude got us down a bit, but totally worth the trek. Very kid friendly.

Rough road

November 12, 2006
After many sleepless hours we arrived in Lima.  Our rental car was NOT what we ordered.  Instead of a rugged 4x4 we ended up putting 4 people and all the bags in a KIA!!!  The road down the Pacific coast was fairly well paved, and the local DOT did a great job trying to improve the scenery. However, It was fondly referred to as "lipstick on a donkey".
