Sydney: Day 1

Arrived around 8.00 in the morning and thought I was back in the UK. Rain! Didn't think they did rain.
Anyway, after the usual wait to pick up the luggage it was time to experience another rail/bus transport system. The lady at the helpdesk was splendid. Advising me to purchase a runabout ticket (wise move in hindsight) and telling me which station to hop off at. The hotel was but a 10 min stroll, including time to consult maps and passers by. The return journey will be much swifter.
Arrived the hotel, (Ibis, World Square) explained the loss of one guest and they swiftly altered my room from a twin to a double. Room to wander at night! Decided to explore the area and after due consideration, decided upon Darling Harbour as it looked nearby and inviting. Jumped on a monorail and 5 mins later, there the harbour was. Did an exploratory walkabout and as the day was drizzly and windy, opted for an indoor excusrion to the Sydney Aquarium. Top notch venue, if you like that sort of thing. Played with my new lens and took pics of varying success- partly the fishes fault for not keeping still!
Wnadered back to the hotel mid evening and set off in search of supper. Just round the corner I was leafleted- sounds painful- and went to a bar/grill that offered steak, chips and a beer for a fiver and had 2 big screens showing sport. Well... decision made! (Golf and Rugby Union in case you're interested).
Fed and watered, I retired to bed at a civilised 11.30.
