STOP PRESS: Severe homesickness meant she returned to the UK at the end of the Hong Kong leg. So it's Cairns on my own now. Daughter and I are off to Oz and back. She for 3 weeks and me for 5. Hope this blog and the accompanying reviews will be of use and moderately entertaining.

Port Douglas, Day 1

Well, less of a Day 1 and more of an evening 1, but there we are.

Arrived around 6.30 after minibus transfer ( no hiccups there). Reception was closed, but there was an envelope with our names on. That was oddly upsetting, given my solo traveller status now, but I soon recovered.

The apartment was pretty expansive and spic and span. I showered, changed and hit the town on a recce.

Didn't take long to find the main drag and its associated 4 side streets. found a local to sample a beer (Tooheys New) and toyed with the idea of eating out. however, tomorrow was an early start, so instead I opted for a takeaway (Barramundi and Chips) and stopped off at the bottle shop for more Tooheys.

Ate and drank whist watching the Test match- not going well, and then in an effort of will, dragged myself away after having set the bedside clock,  mobile phone and the apartment call back system to all go off and rouse me within 10 mins of 3.45. Yep, 3.45 am.

Want to know why? Well, read all about in in the next entry.
