Start of school

Ceyas Maya School

Turns out, there was a girl who came into the B&B late at night who is also going to be studying at the same school.  So we chatted on the bus ride and were able to share cab fare to the school.  She will also be in Xela for 2 months just like me.  Made a friend already!

I was picked up from the school by my family.  Marisol and her 14 yr old daughter, Shania came to pick me up.   Her husband Juan, son Jimmy (16 years old), and son Jurgen (8 years old) were all waiting at the house to meet me.  Very very friendly!!!  None of them speak any English but they are very patient and want to talk to me and help me learn.  I have my own room with a queen size bed and a tv. I didn’t expect that.  As I type I am watching mon night football, Denver is losingJ.

I just finished my first day of school and my brain is fried!  There was so much information in 5 hours of 1 on 1 teaching.  I am told that it gets a lot easier after 1 week, I hope so!  There are about 20 other students, only 1 couple the rest are all solo travelers, so it very easy to make friends.  After school I came home for lunch.  It was a homemade chicken noodle soup.  I was told in the middle of the meal that it was a live chicken she killed early in the morning.  She even acted out a headless chicken running around, appetizing.  I went on a hike with 6 others today after lunch.  It kicked my ass!  I forgot that I am at 8,500 ft. big difference from San Diego.  But the view was spectacular once we reached the top.

I ate dinner with my family, scrambled eggs, black beans, and tortillas.   I just finished my homework and am about to crash.   School is at 8 every morning. Way too early for me but it gets us out by 1 which is great.

Oh, and if you feel overwhelmed by the classes, don't worry, thats totally normal. The first few weeks I was completely lost, until one day it all just started fitting together...soon you will be fluent!!

So James...everytime you update your blog I get excited to read it...I am living vicariously through you right now. I wish I could go to Xela as well, but my work won't give me the time off so that I could leave in November...I am still holding out hope, however small...

I am so jealous!
