No time for a real hike this summer, unfortunately. Instead, I went for a one-day hike with my mom.

Hoping for the sun to show...

The trail up from Gjendesheim.

We wanted to walk from Memurubu, over Besseggen, to Gjendesheim. It's possible to go the other way to, but if you have troubles with your knees like me, it's not recommended. Climing DOWN Besseggen instead op UP can be really hard bon a jumper's knee...

So, the first ferry from Gjendesheim to Memurubu leaves at 7.45 am. We got up early - the couple next door still entertained us a bit - and had breakfast. Got to the boat way to early (don't know how that happened, it's usually the other way around...), stood in the rain until the ferryman felt sorry for us and let us in. The ride is only 20 minutes, but has quite a stiff price (100 NOK, $20), but I guess it has to be like that all the way up in nowheresland.

The best thing about going the route from Memurubu and not the other way around, is that we returned to where we started, and didn't have to carry more than one smaller backpack with lunch and dry socks.

Arriving at Memurubu the rain stopped for a while, and we started to climb up. It's about an hour's walk pretty much straight up before it starts to flatten out a bit. It's a good way to get started and get the circulation going! When finally up, the nature is really stunning! I walked the same route 17 years ago, that time in the most incredible sunshine, so this time it all looked very different. I like walking when the weather is not so nice to, tne nature somehow looks more dramatic, and the colours seems more intense. I'm not so fond of fog, but it wasn't that bad really. It's impossible to predict the weather in the mountains, so I've ended up walking around in sun, snow, hagl...and I enjoy it just as much every time :)

This day, it was to windy to sit down without adding a lot of extra clothing, wich we didn't bring, so we had lunch with mittens on, walking and jumping a bit up and down to keep warm.

The view is starting to disappear...
The wind actually stole one of my bread slices, but I was able to catch it again after a few meters.

I have this silly fright if heights, so climbing up Besseggen, wich is quite narrow, was a little challenge. It was fine until I took the wrong way and ended up hanging out on the side of the edge really, but that was in return a very unpleasant feeling. So, if you ever go, follow the red T-marks. That's what ther're there for...

My angry jumper's knee didn't like climbing down to Gjendesheim again, but I've learned that if you don't stop after it starts to hurt, and just keeps on walking, it's always possible to get down. So I walked. As my mom said: In the beginning of the trip, I ran on like a mountain-goat, but walking down I looked more like a mountain-goose.

Thanks mom.

For that comment, I slept in the car all the way home, so she had to drive. I'm such a brat (even at the age og 26)!
