TravBuddy meetup at Dencio's Bar & Grill . . .
July 17, 2008
Back in June, Florianne / Foyan (coffeefairy) noticed that we'd be in the Philippines around the same time so she would ask if a TB meet up could be organized. A few days later, I got a message from Josh (the_bloodsucker) about a meetup on July 17th
The 4th Philippine TravBuddy meetup was held at Dencio's Bar and Grill in Pasay City. 7pm was the set time but then with Filipino time, it's usually 30 minutes later when people start to show up. My group was the first to arrive just a few minutes before 7:00. I was with Yheleen (bestblog), Nickie (minx2812) and Dennie (nomaden). Foyan was next. Mickey (tj1777) arrived soon after
The event was held on a Thursday because I was originally going to fly to Bacolod City on Friday. There were a few complaints that it wasn't on a weekend but surprisingly 29 people attended. Josh the host was late but then I guess he wanted to make a memorable entrance. His meeting ran late, so he says
The menu was Set Menu C which was comprised of Chopsuey, Kare-Kare, Chicken Barbecue, Sizzling Tiyan ng Bangus, Sisig, Plain Rice and drinks. I ordered 4 Pork Barbeques which disapeared pretty quickly and I only had 1 stick
Kare-Kare - a Philippine stew. It is made from peanut sauce with a variety of vegetables, stewed oxtail, beef, and occasionally offal or tripe. Sizzling Tiyan ng Bangus - the stomach of a Milkfish.
Knives are never served. All you'll ever get are a fork and spoon. I did ask the server for a knife but Nickie and I could not understand his reply so we just stuck with what we had
There were way too many people to be able to meet with everyone. I don't think I've seen so many cameras in one place with no celebrities present. It was pretty blinding from all the flashes
After dinner, we moved on to a bar next door. Drinks were ordered while the entertainment started with Foyan and andiboi (andiboi) and their non-stop dancing
Overall, I had a great time at my first TravBuddy meetup. It sure would be nice if I could meet with a few people before I fly back home Sept 10th
