The view from our hostel. =)
With the madness of the morning behind us, we arrived, luckily, into Kennedy so it was just a subway away to our hostel.  The hostel, Jazz on the Park, was very conveniently located about a block away from the Northwest side of Central Park.  Being from Texas, and usually only traveling during summer, I was used to pretty much one season- Summer.  "Winter" was really just summer with a cool breeze most of the time ;).  So to arrive in full-fledged autumn foliage was beautiful.  On top of that, everywhere we looked, we could feel Christmas.  It immediately lifted our spirits.

It also lifted our appetites.  We acquainted ourselves with our 10-bed room, changed into less comfortable but cuter clothing, and set off towards Little Italy and Chinatown, the neighborhoods of the day.

Although I usually like to put some research into restaurants before we go or ask the locals for suggestions, a couple of our group members we so hungry we went pretty much into the first restaurant we saw.  Luckily, they had a prix fixe menu, and the food turned out to be pretty good, as well as cheap.

With our stomachs now full, and everyone back in a good mood, we decided to walk off a bit of our meal in Chinatown.  With dreams of knock-off designer purses (Come to back room! Come here! Look!), we stopped at nearly every little stand there.  We did in fact get a few purses, but we also decided to be a little adventurous and buy random Chinese fruits from the fruit stands and candy from the stores.  We had longan, which is similar to litchi, and rice cakes and chocolates and some kind of gummy that I don't really remember too well.  We bought pashminas and souvenirs and just generally took advantage of a wonderful night.

We returned to the hostel exhausted and cold down to our bones, looking forward to a good night's sleep.
