Pinkapalooza!
As part of the Twilight Series at the Santa Monica Pier, Victoria Secret sponsored "Pinkapalooza" with the Fallout Boys (Pete Wentz's band, or as my friend explained, Ashlee Simpson's husband's band). We actually didn't realize who was playing when we got there - we just wanted to have a nice picnic on the beach while enjoying live music. Instead of cooking (because we are horribly lazy), we swung by Honey's Kettle in Culver City and got the Family Pac - 8 piece chicken, biscuits, macaroni salad, etc. The smell wafting from the box during our drive to Santa Monica made me super duper hungry. We also had our wine (Trefethen Reisling, which I inadvertently froze, but no worries - it all worked out in the end; and a Melville Syrah) and some desserts so we were set!
We arrived around 6:30 which was quite early but there were already other picnikers on the beach setting up.
We plopped all our stuff down and immediately started stuffing our faces. Let's just say we were very impressive. :) The band didn't take the stage until 9pm probably, but they had a dj spinning really great dance music the entire time. Then as the sun set and the night darkened, the ferris wheel on the pier was lit up (awesome). A strange man on stilts and dressed up like an Ent (think Lord of the Rings) or a woodland fairy appeared on the sand to take pictures with the revelers. It was amazing how he was able to remain balanced stilting on the sand - when he squatted, stilts and all, we decided he had to be asian ... or a circus performer. What can I say? Most asians are quite adept at squatting. We didn't stay through the entire Fallout Boys set since Sybil didn't even know who they were and we had already been out there for about 4 hours. But it was super fun and relaxing so we are heading out again next Thurs! Next time the menu will have jamon au beurre and other cheese. :) I like to plan ahead.
