Berlin Marathon
Today we woke up about noon (it was a long night) and went and had lunch at a small cafe on a canal.  After that we saw the festivities of the Belin Marathon and Rachel and I enjoyed the sounds of Samba Syndrome playing along the race route.  We also went by Humboldt University where they are selling books outside.  It's a really neat thing...  years ago the students of the university raided the library and burned all of the books that went against the Nazi idiologys so now they sell the books everyday at a discounted price trying to undo what was done somehow.  After that we tried for a hour and a half to get around the marathon, got lost in the park and by the time we got to where we wanted to go we were so tired that it was time for a beer break.  After a quick sippie we went to the exhibit under the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe.

It was really intense.  Wow.  After that we headed to the Berlin Wall and checked out the Topography of Terror and then we went on to Checkpoint Charlie.  After all of this we were exhausted so we headed back to the hostel but not before stopping for dinner at a Thai restaurant (although we stopped thinking it was a sushi restaurant).  We took a nice nap at the hostel then headed out to Hackescher Market.  We had a beer at Weihenstephaner sitting outside and people watching.  Then a begger comes up to our table and we tell him 'nine deuch'  He then spits out our candle!  After that we went to Kilkenny Irish Pub and they were playing the Saints game so we sat down and had a beer.  We ended up meeting some guys from Tampa Bay that are also going to Oktoberfest on Monday.  I think we may meet up in Munich.  -Kate
