On our way to Sines

We arrived in Sines and it was already dark. We didn't really know where to go but we drove up the hill to where the city centre was. Down at the bottom was the beach area. We noticed as we were going up the hill that down along the water there was a lot of white tents set up and lots of lights and were wondering what was going on.

We decided that we should get a hotel for the night (atleast for Ben) as he had a long day of driving ahead of him tomorrow and the last two nights we haven't been able to get a proper sleep as we had been sleeping in the car. So when we got to the centre we started looking for a hotel but we couldn't find one. So we pulled over and asked some people who were sitting outside a cafe if they knew were a hotel was.

We couldn't really communicate with them well and they pointed us in the right direction but as we drove off we had no idea where we were going. We didn't get too far and then the people who were sitting outside the cafe came along and found us in their car and told us to follow them. Again such nice people! They took us right to a hotel!

Lauro and I went into the hotel to see if they had a room left. They didn't...but that's OK it looked pretty expensive anyways. We asked at the desk if there was another one nearby and the lady said just down the road so we decided to leave the others in the car and check out this other hotel. As we were walking we didn't find any hotel and we were getting kind of confused as to this other one was. But we saw a man so we stopped to ask him if he knew where the hotel was that was nearby.

He said yes he did know where it was as he was staying there as well and would take us. Again with the nice people in Portugal showing us around! At the desk we enquired to see if they had space for 6 people. They did but it was in one 4 bed room and one 2 bed room and would be about 18 euro a night. So I called the guys and they said they were all down for it so we told the guy to hold the rooms for us and we would be back. Lauro and I then walked back to the car where the rest of the lot was waiting for us and we drove back to the hotel to park.

Lauro didn't want to stay in the hotel as he didn't want to pay the money and would rather sleep in the car. But we still had the rooms and if we were splitting between 5 rather then 6 it was a bit more money. I couldn't care less if I slept in the car or in the hotel but we really just wanted a bed for Ben as he hasn't been able to get a proper nights sleep and has been doing all this driving and has a HUGE day of driving ahead of him tomorrow.

At the food festival!!
So in the end we decided to just get the two person room for Ben to sleep in and we would all split the price and then the rest of us would sleep in the car outside the hotel. We felt pretty bad for kind of kicking Ben out of the group and making him sleep in the hotel but we all knew it was for the best. As we booked up the room the guy at the front desk told us that all the stalls and lights that we saw when we drove in was a food festival and it was going on until 2am!

Score! We could not have had better luck! We were all starving, it was about 11pm and nothing was open and there was a friggen FOOD festival down on the beach! Haha we were all so excited and rushed down the hill to get there asap. All the food was mostly meat and seafood (poor Hannah!). Ruby and I got some beef and seafood skewers and then I got this delicious seafood salad with octopus, calamari, and prawns etc.

Live Band
It was so good! Jugs of sangria were pretty cheap as well and beers were only 1 euro!

Once we all had our food we just grabbed a table and chilled out. There was a live band playing a whole bunch of covers as well and it was just such a good night! The evening started out pretty crappy with everyone being pissed off that we drove all the way to Lagos and then had to turn around and spent most of the night in the car but then we ended up in a gorgeous little town right on the water eating fresh seafood and listening to music. There was an English guy named Michael who was working at the stall where we bought our food from. He just moved from England and it was his aunts stall so he was helping her out.

Mmmm seafood salad!
He was really nice and was awesome that he spoke English as we had someone to communicate with.

As we were sitting eating our food we were watching this clearly drunk man dance for everyone. Honestly one of the funniest things I have ever seen. He was so drunk and was trying to be all seductive and dancing for everyone! He was walking down the street dancing and then right infront of the stage where everyone was watching the band. And then he would go out into the crowd and pull people and dance right infront of them. Everyone was watching him and laughing but he didn't mind. I took a video as well so I will post it.

After dinner we decided to walk down on the beach. Lauro and Ben went back up the hill to go to bed and Ruby, Hannah, Alex, and me headed to the beach.

Crazy drunken guy dancing away...haha too funny!
It was fun playing in the sand, or in Hannah's case, the water but we didn't stay down there too long. After a while we too went back up the hill to go to bed. Luckily the people in the hotel were really nice and let us use the washrooms before we went out to the car to go to bed. As Ben was asleep in the hotel room we were able to push his chair up all the way which let everyone in the back have a little more leg space which was nice for our very last night sleeping in the car.
