Getting to Sunderbans from Kolkata took several hours as we had a three hour bus journey through Bengal, followed by a two hour boat journey to the Tiger Camp situated in the mangroves.

After lunch we had our first tiger spotting boat trip and a visit to a watchtower and crocodile pool where we spotted a large monitor lizard.  In the evening we were entertained by local villagers performing traditional song and dance and what was to be our only encounter with a Bengal tiger!

The following morning was an early start on the boat for more tiger spotting.  We enjoyed breakfast on the boat with our fellow tiger spotters.  By this time everyone on the trip had got to know each other and we were all having a great time.  That evening we walked to the local village where we enjoyed watching the children playing an extremely muddy game of football.  Before dinner some locals performed a drama telling the tale of Goddess Bonbibi who protects the villagers from the man eating tigers.

Sunday morning we had our final trip on the boat through the mangroves where we saw some spotted deer and a king cobra.  We enjoyed our final lunch together before saying farewell to our brilliant hosts at Sunderbans Tiger Camp and heading back to Kolkata.
