Puri
We travelled straight from Sunderbans to the seaside town of Puri where we stayed at the friendly and extremely clean Hotel Gandhara. Our first day was spent strolling along the beach and chatting to the locals including a group of friendly photographers.
The following day we got an auto-rickshaw to Konark to view the Sun Temple and in the afternoon we went into central Puri to view Jagannath Temple from the roof of the local library as non hindus are not permitted to enter the actual temple.
That evening we bumped into Marta a friendly Polish student we had met at Sunderbans. We arranged to meet up several times for dinner and a beer at the local bar. One day the three of us went to Chilika Lake for a boat trip where we spotted some dolphins.
On our last day we all went swimming in the Bay of Bengal which was great fun although Linda and Marta had to bathe fully clothed in their Salwar Kameez.
The rest of our time in Puri was spent relaxing on the beach and gorging on fresh seafood including Lobster, crab, king prawns and king fish.
