Kanchanaburi
December 5, 2008
We took the train from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi where we stayed at Sam's River Rafthouse overlooking the River Kwai. The rafthouse was very relaxing, particularly sitting in the sun on the balcony with a beer Chang.
The town was a bit too touristy with many cheesy bars which didn't open until mid afternoon although we did enjoy the historical sites of the town.
On Saturday evening we took a boat to the bridge over the River Kwai to watch a sound and light show to commerate the people who died building the railway during world war 2.
In the morning we visited the Burma-Thailand Railway Museum which was very interesting and informative, we also visited the allied war cemetary opposite the museum which was quite moving.
The afternoon was spent taking a walk across the bridge and visiting another museum.
