Keith, a fellow CS'er from York, is another example of what makes this website so great. Taking me in at the last minute and offering to pick me up so early at the train station was very kind to say the least.
So I get to the train station, but where was Keith? I called and it turns out that he thought I meant 20.41 Not to worry though because not only is York beautiful, but it is also completely walkable. Also, Keith is very close to the train station. It was less than a 5 minute walk haha. Keith and Oli are both really great guys. I felt bad for waking them so early on a Saturday, but they were fine with it and went back for more sleep when I went out to explore.
I tried to get lost here in York, but I couldn't seem to do it haha. In bigger cities like Dublin and Edinburgh I have been to I have had my nose to the map the entire time I walked around so that I would not get lost. York, though, is so unintimidating that I wanted to just walk and take it all in.
There were two main WOW factors here. The first was when I crossed over the river bridge. The river is so beautiful. There are many boats and people sitting along the dock. The people were having lunch and a beer, relaxing. Needless to say it was a gread day outside for doing so.
The second WOW was when I walked up to the York Minster. You walk up to it and it is almost as if you don't have enough room to back up and see it all at once. It is THAT big of a building in THAT small of a town.
I think the fact that there were so many tourists here today added to the small town feel of York because the streets were filled. Everyone walks here, so I forgot it was streets I was walking on until a car came through trying to penetrate the crowd from time to time.
I came back to Keith's and I took a very nice and needed nap. It feels really good to be able to stop and just relax for a bit.
Keith and Oli are frequent visitors of the pubs, so around 21.00 we headed thatway. I didn't buy a drink all night. Although it should have been the other way around, Keith and his friend Ward were overly generous to me. Thanks again guys.
It was really funny because Keith said Hi to this "queen" (self proclaimed) of a man and had to subsequently fend him off the rest of the night hahaha... good times.
Ward was a really cool guy as well. He is the first person I have met who enjoys American football!! He said he was a Viking fan. Not sure how he came to that decision haha
Around 3.00 we headed back to Keith's and I knocked out.
There was no internet available to me so I am sorry for the late post here.
