Venice - Italy
September 29, 2008
I love this photo. I miss my had though. Here I am stainding on the Rialto Bridge overlooking the Grand Canal.
Everything about this city is beautiful in my opinion. The color of the water, the buildings, the gondolas, etc. etc. etc.
Our first main goal was to find a bank so I could get some cash. Finding banks was easy but none would give me a cash advance. I was told over and over to use the ATMs but of course, this emergency Master Card doesn't work on those. Getting cash was like pulling teeth. Ab can attest to that. Finally, I had to settle for an exchange company who charged A LOT for the service. I got out 200 euro but I had to pay 12% or 24 euro to get it. The more you got the less the percent, but after Munich I was too nervous to get more.
We actually ate two dine in meals today. Not cheap, but again an essential experience. Both were outside and for me both were pizza.... Cheapest haha.
We saw a lot but the main sights were the Grand Canal, the Ponte Realto, and the basilica and square of San Marco. Looking out over the Grand Canal from the Ponte is probably one of the most perfect pictures anywhere. I wanted to see the Vitruvian man, but I think it is only on display for special occasions and I didn't know if me being in Venice was special enough of an occasion for them to display it. Oh well.
Oh, and I got a really cool hat today. Well... I like it anyway haha. Now I really look like an Italian ay? (Update: I lost it on a train 3-4 days later... oh well)
