Cork - Ireland
August 17, 2008
I was not at all ready to get up. I got on the train, though, and here I sit. Time to attempt to get my second half of last night's sleep in. Oh, here comes the trolly lady, just like in Harry Potter.
I got off the train in Cork and walked directly to the bus station. I bout a 5.6 euro round trip ticekt to Blarney. It was cold and rainy again today, so I walked to the castle and wow! Not only did I get to kiss the Blarney Stone, but the castle itself was amazing! Very tight and steep stone steps is my only complaint to the architect lol. I had to ask others to take my picture of course, but when I met Nichole, Charlie, and Linsey to do so once, we continued to hang out for the rest of the tour. They were to sisters and a cousin. They were all just as picture happy as I am. See my Blarney Castle photos for proof. We had a blast kissing the stone. Quite the scarry occurance for your first time. Not only are you on your back hanging upside down, but you also get to stare down to what would be a lengthy free fall if there was no bars and you slipped haha. On the way out we ran into a room above the enterance named the death room because there was a square hole in the floor to drop boling hot water on or send an arrow through unsuspecting enemies. Leave it to me to thoroughly enjoy wondering how many people had been killed from that very spot.
Back to Cork. I walked down Sir Oubear Plunsceao Street and back up St. Patrick Street. AGain, the rain and wind were bothersome so I have decided to take the 16.30 train out to killarney. The girls had just come back and they told me it was beautiful. Hopefully it isnt too dark when I get there so I can take some pictures.
Cork was okay, but I will not miss it like I miss Blarney Castle.
Getting a place to stay in Killarney was tough. Ashlea was right, I should have booked ahead. Actually, this was a blessing. I found a B&B above Murphey's Pub for 50 euro. I thought this was high, but the sleep I got with the clean shower and amazing breakfast put the price out of mind.
