We were working hard

The Campus United Ministries Conference is where ministry leaders gather together on the campus of Harding University to fellowship with one another and to sit at the feet of men and women actively engaged in the battle for the world's university campuses. This year's theme centered around intentional mentoring relationships. Of course, the ultimate mentor is our Heavenly Father, but the Biblical model is for the more mature in Christ to mentor the less mature, and for the leaders of today to foster growth and spiritual maturity among the leaders of tomorrow. The Speakers came from a wide variety of backgrounds. Elders, preachers, evangelists, campus ministers, missionaries, educators, and students all were there.

This time was filled with some pretty awesome speakers that spoke on some pretty awesome topics. The biggest and most interesting had to be how to be mentors to our news younger students. I got a lot out of this session and look forward to implementing some of the ideas and techniques in my ministry. The session by Wes Woodell opened the eyes and got everyone excited about our ministries. He gave a sorta state of the union about our field. Not all good, but news we can all use to get the word out. Other sessions included Flavil Yeakley - "Why Should Churches Be Concerned with Campus Ministry?" We call him Flava Flave.

He was great.

The one thing the churches of Christ are known for is its singing. We sang quite a bit and there is a clip of just one of the songs we sang. Jerome Williams, who is a very accomplished musician with many many Cd’s on record store shelves.

There were participants who came from as far as Canada. They have only one campus ministry in the entire country. It was hard to believe, but true. I had a chance to meet up with an old friend, Ryan Franklin, from Mid Western State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and I met another guy from Arizona, Tyler Ellis. He was a pretty new guy to his ministry in Flagstaff at Northern Arizona State. We all laughed at our stupid jokes, and made fun of each others clothes. It was a really good time.
