I finaly got to relax

This morning we rode the bus to Capricorn Caves. It was interesting because most of the caves were actually above ground. The guide led us around and showed us different points of interest. There was even a chapel in the cave that people actually get married in. Then we got to choose a group to go with, easy, medium or hard. I chose the medium because the hard looked like a hole in the rock the size of a basketball to squeeze through. I think I choose well because my group had to work as a team to find our way through a very narrow cave. At one point we even had to crawl on our bellies on the ground. We only had one flashlight so we had to help each other get through. It was fun and we worked well together.

At lunch one of the guides brought out a flying fox (one of the bats found in the caves). It was huge! I got a great picture of its wingspan.

Back at the hotel Adam, Verna and I had a few hours to lie on the beach. It was wet and there were crab footprints everywhere but so nice to finally relax. I laid for as long as could before my towel was soaked through. I went in the water and caught a hermit crab.

At night we went to a crocodile farm for dinner. I actually ate crocodile chowder! Yes that’s right, picky Mandi ate crocodile. It was actually pretty good. It tasted just like clam chowder. The meat had the consistency of shrimp. Between courses we went outside to spot crocodiles. We learned that you need to hold the flashlight on your forehead so you can see the reflection of their eyes. It was pretty neat. There were some really big ones. Then we got to hold a small crocodile. I must comment that this was the first time we were out in the country away from lights and were able to really see the sky. The southern hemisphere constellations are amazing! You can see the line of the Milky Way going across the sky. You feel like you can reach up and touch the stars. I was able to find the Southern Cross and the two stars that always point south. Unbelievable!
