Month In The Land Of Smiles

Bangkok Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I spent the month of November, 2006 travelling throughout Thailand. My journey, by rail and air, took me from Bangkok to Chang Mai, Chang Mai to The Golden Triangle (with a short stay in Laos), then south to Phuket, from Phuket up the Andaman coast to the Khao Lak and Khao Sok National Parks, then northeast to the Island of Ko Samui in the Gulf and, finally, back to Bangkok. Thailand is a wonderful country and a photographers dream. Hope you enjoy my photos (and now some videos too).

Month In The Land Of Smiles

Suvarnbhumi Airport
I Ianded at the new (Suvarnabhumi) airport in Bangkok on November first and stayed at a small hotel near Bangkok's Chinatown to spend a few days adjusting to jet lag and the hot, humid climate and to do a little shopping. The recently completed shopping complex at the Siam Station train stop on Sukhumvit Road is truly amazing, and a great place to eat, with hundreds of restaurants of every description in its huge food court. Over the years I've been coming here there have been many improvements to Bangkok. Now, instead of having to ride klong boats along polluted waterways or spend the better part of an afternoon crossing town in a taxi or tuk tuk, you can ride the Skytrain or the subway in air conditioned comfort to within walking distance of many, it not most places in Bangkok. I didn't visit many of the better known tourist attractions this trip, since I've seen most of them on previous visits. I saw no evidence of the Military Government in Thailand due to the recent coup.
