Khao Lak National Park

Takua Pa Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I spent the month of November, 2006 travelling throughout Thailand. My journey, by rail and air, took me from Bangkok to Chang Mai, Chang Mai to The Golden Triangle (with a short stay in Laos), then south to Phuket, from Phuket up the Andaman coast to the Khao Lak and Khao Sok National Parks, then northeast to the Island of Ko Samui in the Gulf and, finally, back to Bangkok. Thailand is a wonderful country and a photographers dream. Hope you enjoy my photos (and now some videos too).

Khao Lak National Park

From Patong I took a minivan to Khao Lak, which was the area hit hardest in Thailand by the tsunami. There was still some rebuilding going on. More than four thousand poor souls lost their lives here. After four days in Phuket, Khao Lak seemed pretty slow, but it was a good place to rest and regroup. On the second day I went on a snorkeling trip by speedboat to the Similian Islands. I didn't bring my camera because I was afraid of getting it wet. The three islands we visited provided some fairly good snorkeling, but I've had better snorkeling trips to Ko Tao and some of the Islands around Ko Lipe in the deep south.

I bet that had a weird, sad feel to it with all the lives lost.
