an afternoon in the Valley of Fire

The year began busy for my company in 2004 with overlapping activities. By then, however, we had enough people to handle two different events in the same month. I was still the only Company Sales Representative and the person most experienced at dealing with our consumers, so I carried a lot of the burden and worked both shows. (The names in this journal have been changed to protect the guilty.)

an afternoon in the Valley of Fire

Evans and company at Valley of Fire, about an 80-minute drive northeast of Las Vegas

After breaking down the booth and packing everything up, we took about an 80-minute drive northeast of the city.  Stopping first to check out the petrified logs, I found the partially unearthed, log-shaped rocks rather under whelming.  Next, however, we drove to nearby Valley of Fire State Park where we spent the rest of the afternoon and I was much more impressed.  With formations of eroded red sandstone and desolate landscape of the Mojave Desert, there were many striking views and I regretted not having a camera.

We had stayed until dark and got back to the hotel after 10:00pm.  The rest of the guys crashed early, but I had to eat, so I had a bite at the Pyramid CafĂ© and then had a couple of drinks in one of the casino level bars.  Soon bored and growing tired from another long day, I went to bed in the early antemeridian and woke up rested for my morning flight home.
