Eternal city - Roma
July 6, 2008
So... after few hours of uncomfortable almost-sleep i've arrived in Roma - the eternal city. it was before 6 in the morning.
The day just began and so i headed those few blocks to my hostel - fortunately it was that near, and i stood after some 10min in front of it touch the door bell and waited. Some kind sleepy voice answered and let me in. The a bit sleepy lady checked me in and searched for free bed, but because it was THAT early she couldn't discover which beds would be free - she must have seen that i was a bit tired so she let me rest as much as i want on a sofa in the living room. THANK YOU NICE LADY! It was the best part of the night when i could fall asleep! Iwoke up after 3 hrs i guess - and was supposed to find a guy named Victor - but in fact it was he who found me hahaha. Cuz they run two pensionhouses together with a pinoy-italian family (yes there were pionoys!!!!!!! ahaha) he walked with me to the other side of the street to that second hostel. Here i got my bed, which after i came from bathroom was not my anymore ahahha. Instead i got another one in nicer (only 3 beds)-dormitory with a nice terrace:))).
After few minutes a french dude - Medie - showed up at the terrace - he was my new room-mate. He was traveling with his brother Philip. we started to talk and so we went together to the city. They usually walked always and didn't used any collective transport means in Rom but i managed to force them to go by metro:) haha
First we went to Piazza Popolo/Flaminio, cuz they wanted to visit Villa Borghese - for me was it ok, cuz i've never seen this part of Rom - and the usuall tourist sights were already known by me:)
First we sat down at the church stairs at Piazza Popolo. We had no rush so just were looking at the ppl. and after a while - since it was sunday - i noticed that there would be Holly Mass in a minute. I went to the service and my new mates rested in piazza - reading some books (about maths!!!!).
After the Mass was over we went finally to Villa Borghese. It was very hot so we rested at the fountain - then we were walking with no shoes on in the water and after a while - when i was sitting at it, but the edge was slippery and i just fall with my ass into the water:! LOL - u can see at the pic - it looked like i didn't manage to the toilet hahaha.
Then we made a big circle and turned back to Piazza Popolo. Here starts the Via del Corso and all the narrow torists streets with bars, restos and avery kind of shops. We made some shopping - bought some food and went to Piazza di Spagna - eating and drinking italian beer we were sitting at the stairs with some houndrets of ppl and watching and talking. Then we visited Palazzo Chigi, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori - had a cup of coffe there and went to Piazza Venezia and all the stuff with Fori Imperiali till Coloseo. Here i left the brothers - who went back to the hostel - and i was doing the best part of the day: riding metro!
I was right to choose this day for it, cuz next day should be strike in here. I rode the blue line to the end station Rebbiba and back - changing for the red line and again riding it to the Anagnina - the terminus. Then i came back to hostel. We ate a bit and rested at our terrace. After i was quite ok with the food and rest - i tryed my tagalog to the women at the reception. She was pinoy and was running the hostel with her italian husband and the rest of the pinoy family. U should have seen her face when i tryed to talk tagalog! hahahah She couldn't believe that a guy from Poland could be able to learn it hahaha. It was funny :)
In the evening all 3 of us went to Piazza Venezia - stopping at a gelateria for a gelato - and then headed again to Spagna - where all the ppl from the whole world were enjoying the vacation time in Roma. We bought beer and met there many ppl - a funny guys from Romania and Usa. Then - i wanted to go back with my lovely metro (which in fact sucks here in Rom haha) - but forgot that the strike should have begin at 21.00 ://// and i had to walk on my little poor feet - i hate walking when i can ride! I can walk in mountains but in the city the man is supposed to use metro!!! I'd love to have my bike there and in few minutes ride back to hostel.
so i had to walk back on foot:///
