0225. Ramadan during the Apple Harvest (Mor 073--new)

After Ifrane I continue on north and stop next at the much poorer town Imouzzer--known as the Apple Capital of Morocco.  From the edge of town you get a fabulous view of a plateau of apple orchards--and the vast Fes valley even farther below...

The town feels like a beehive after being in Ifrane--and it's apple harvest so there are a lot of pickers coming from out of town.

After soaking in the view of the valleys below, I follow a rough dirt road that clings to the steep hillside so I can get a complete view of the region.  Pass through half a dozen cheery but very poor little hamlets... finally I decide to head on back to town--figure I should be able to climb straight up the hill to get to town so I won't have to retrace my steps.

.. sure enough... find a footpath that takes my straight up and back to town.

Figure this would be a fun place to enjoy my Ramadan ftor... Bad decision...

Remember, this is the apple harvest--so unlike other towns where everybody goes home to have their break fast, here a lot of apple pickers don't have a home to go to--so they pounce on any little restaurant that sells anything edible...

I don't feel like competing with dozens of very hungry apple pickers, so I patiently wait out in the cold mountain wind until they all got what they want... they quickly ate up all the msimmen, harira and just about everything else...

Anyways, it’s a different sort of experience...

Finally I give up on getting a decent meal and head on up to Fes...
