A Sad Trip Back

No more 6-packs of 2 liter beers...
This is always the worst part of the trip. The realization that it's time to go home. I don't think I've ever been ready to go home, no matter how long I've been away.

This time is especially hard, having to leave my friend behind again for at least half a year, maybe more. We'd spent 3 weeks, generally within arm's reach of each other, 24 hours a day. I'm sorry, at one point Zvonka walked up a hill to buy some tickets while I sat on the packs, so that was a good 15 minutes apart... : )

It had been a really fun, but really tiring trip, on the move the whole time, getting a few hours of sleep every couple nights... and this last leg was no easier. We'd made it back to Croatia, but we were still on the far end of a whole lot of buses and trains and cars back to the airport (and for Zvonka work), the next morning.
No more herds of beach cats slinking around my ankles...
No time to rest, we went for a last swim, traveled to the nearest bus station, then rode back across the country to Zagreb, arriving late at night. We spent the night repacking, shuffling our combined 3800 pictures between stacks of memory cards, and computers, slept an hour or two, then headed for the airport early in the morning.

From there Frankfurt, the arctic, Chicago, San Francisco, and 19 hours of flying later, late the next night, San Diego. Then a hornet's nest of work waiting for me at my job in the morning : )

I think it took a good two months to get over the post travel depression this trip : ) It's the penance you pay, generally proportional to the level of pleasure experienced traveling.
