Several National Parks around the Western U. S.

Crazy Horse Monument

After visiting Mount Rushmore in the morning we had lunch and did a little laundry before making our way to see the Crazy Horse Memorial.  This is so different from what we saw this morning.  Here back in 1947 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, is what one person felt should be done without the government getting involved.  He and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear picked a mountain here close to Mt Rushmore and began the monument to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.  Today it continues with 7 of his 10 children still working on the mountain.  And it is such a wonderful place to visit.  There are no guards, no feeling of hardness, but instead a welcoming volunteerism that makes it a pleasing visit. Oh, I’m sure that some of those people get paid, but the gifts and souvenirs are much less expensive here and the work goes on from the donations and small fee to visit.  I certainly hope it gets done, I would sure like to be able to see the finished work.
