Some beautiful views of the hillsides on our way to Pokhara

Due to Razzu's recommendation and the gas strikes, we decided to push things up a bit in order to ensure we made it to Chitwan (aka, our safari). That meant changing our plans mid day, hopping into a private car(well, la-de-da) and driving for 5 hours through some of the most beautiful, lush rolling hills you'll ever see, and ending our day, lakeside, in Pokhara. We even got our first glimpse of the Himalayas. Its monsoon season, so most of the sky was covered in grey clouds. Fortunately for us, a small window of blue sky was passing across the horizon, and gave us a sneak peak at what we hope to see more of. From what we saw, it was a breathtaking experience that had both of us bouncing in our seats.

A pretty typical scene.....narrow roads and huge buses

Not much else happened today, but tonight certainly made up for it. We headed to bed and settled in, only to find a small cockroach in our room. As it scurried about, Larry chased it with his shoe as I barked orders while standing on the bed. After our 30 minute hunt, Larry finally achieved success. We could have a peaceful nights sleep. We dozed off, only to be woken up when I felt something scurry up my leg. We jumped out of bed, and our disbelief turned to reality when we saw another cockroach, this one bigger and badder than the first, shoot out from our covers. Being that it was 11:30, and the front desk was closed, we couldn't just leave the hotel. As we considered our situation, only one solution became clear....the bathroom.

Stopping for a quick rest on our way
We set up shop in our bathroom, laying down blankets and pillows, plugging up drains with Larry's socks (yes, Larry's socks), and prepping our cans of bug spray. For anyone who hasn't slept on the floor of a bathroom without any windows in the middle of Nepal during monsoon season, it's not all its cracked up to be. Of course, when the electricity went out, that didn't help either. We did our best to get some sleep in our suana-like bedroom. Larry got a couple of hours, while I stayed up most of the night, hunting mosquitos with Larry's t-shirt (yes, Larry's t-shirt). I was relentless. Let me give you a little play by play:

Leanna: There it is, I see it! It's on your back Larry! WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP. I missed...oh...its on your leg...WHAP WHAP WHAP WHAP. Nows its on your face!! And so on and so forth....

As you may have guessed, it was a long night.
