Sri Lanka Blessing: The lovely fountain outside Mount Lavinia Hotel's reception.
KERRY - So the day of the blessing arrived and all the planning and organising that we had done over the past few days, as well as the help from Andrei's family was worth it! It was great to have so many of our UK friends there to share the day with us (and thanks to you all for your help with moving things and setting things up for us on the day), as well as to meet more of Andrei's extended family (thanks to Uncle Anselm and Uncle Ashley again for introducing everyone to us).

The day started off pretty relaxed, we met the banqueting lady to finalise things, and she mentioend the fatal words 'the weather looks like it will be ok!'. About 10 mins later it started to rain lightly and then about an hour later the heavans opened up Sri Lankan Style!! I was in the middle of a pedicure, at the time, which was probbaly for the best as i could not go mad and start to stress.
Sri Lanka Blessing: The UK people who travelled across for the happy event.
When i came back to our hotel room Andrei had spoken to the general manager of the hotel and it was agreed we could hold the blessing in another function room, rather than the tea garden, which was now soaked from the rain!

We started to afternoon with photos in the courtyard and then moved into the room for the blessing. Father Felician Perera -another contact of Uncle Anselm, condicted the service which was really nice and relaxed. We sang some hymns and said some prayers and then had some drinks afterwards before moving to the main room for the reception. A surprise greated me there as Uncle Anselm had organising our cake, which was a replica of the one Andrei's mum had made for our wedding int he UK. We went through the Sri Lankan traditions of lighting the oil lamp and cutting the cake and feeding one another, and then mingled with our guests , before Andrei's Dad - Eddie, made a speach and we then tucked into the plentiful buffett.
Sri Lanka Blessing: A small selection of Andrei's Sri Lankan family, some who he had met before! These were the ones that turned up first.

It was then a quick dash off for Andrei and i to get changed into our Sri Lankan outfits -me in a sari and Andrei in his traditional suit. we made another grand entrance (which brought my mum to tears, as she had not seen my sari previously, and then danced the night away to our excellent band - Heat. (thanks again Unlce Ashley and Aunty Niru - they were great!).

The evening ended at 11pm, but we retired to the poolside bar for some more drinks with our Uk contingency!  A thouroughtly enjoyable day! but we are not rushing to plan another event soon!
