We were able to take two 15 day tours through Brendon Tours with a few extra days in London between.

Lucerne

This morning we are off again, this time towards Switzerland.  Breakfast was cereal, a hard-boiled egg, and coffee. And today something different… rain!  We have been so lucky with the weather on our tour.  Before we left the US my husband was watching the weather and it was supposed to be either raining or just stopped when we got to each city.  And so far, we had found sun everywhere.  But today as we drive north and back into the mountains the rain is falling.

We spend lunch in Lugano, not out near the main street but back up where we could find the good stuff.  Again we had pizza and followed it with a super ice cream cone. Question, why does ice cream taste so good in Europe? Is it just because you are on vacation?

We had a little extra time to window shop, but in the rain we took it easy.

Back on the bus towards Lucerne, and through some of the longest tunnels in the world.  The Gotthard Pass at about 7,000 feet is only open a part of the year so they cut tunnels through the mountains so that traffic could flow all year. There are actually several long tunnels but one of them is 11 miles long!

Luzerne is out destination and we pull in about 4:30 in the afternoon. Plenty of time to relax before dinner.

Our hotel here is the Grand Hotel Europe, a very high class hotel built many years ago and maintained and updated to make guests feel pampered and special.  This a is a very nice hotel.

Our dinner was Filet of Sole and after eating fish in Venice it was just a tad less, but still very good.
