Our day begins with a bus tour of the city where we get to see some fun and interesting places and things.

Then up to the Edinburgh Castle where we get a full tour.  This is an amazing piece of history but it is still used and so it is in great condition.  In fact when we get there they are already preparing for the annual military Tatoo that happens in August.   Our local Scottish tour guide is a real joy to listen too and he had the real gift of gab to keep us all in stitches.

From the castle high on the hill we traveled down the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This is the Queen’s residence when she is in Edinburgh.

We are taken on a tour inside to see some of the rooms of the Palace.  No pictures are allowed inside but we enjoy it anyway.  The ruins of the attached abbey attached to one end of the Palace brought my husband some super pictures.  They turned out so well that one of them was used by Flicker in their Guide to Edinburgh.

The afternoon was free to walk the downtown area where we were able to shop, browse, and relax.  Lunch turned out to be at a great little pub called Filthy McNasty’s.   We had Fish and Chips and a beer, and it really was delicious.

After lunch we were bused back to the hotel where we had a couple of hours to relax before going out for dinner.

And we knew exactly where we wanted to go, back to Bar Roma!  This time we had Lasagna, and ordered garlic cheese bread to go with it.  The really fun waiter, who looked like Matt Leblanc (Joey Tivianni of Friends), brought a plate to the table with a slice of bread, clove of garlic and hunk of cheese. With a super smile he asked if that was right, “garlic, cheese bread”? We got a real good giggle out of it.  And then when he brought my dinner and bread he got down on one knee to present it to me in a very flirty way. Awww.  I was delighted, and it was so fun.
