Back to Los Angeles and home from there

We are so ready for today to come.  Actually for the last ten days we have been saying to ourselves, “this sure looked good on paper, but boy will it be good to get home!” :)

We got up and packed and went down for one last very good breakfast at the best hotel we have been in.  Eggs benedict, waffles, lots of different meats, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee, tea, and more.  It was so hard to chose which to eat.

At 10 a.m. we were down in the lobby for our shuttle to the airport.  We were flying out of Gatwick and the driver knew that he had plenty of time, so he took the long way around and it took us nearly an hour and a half to go the 20 miles.  But just as we approached our terminal, which luckily was the first drop-off point he realizes he has a flat left front tire.  We said our goodbyes, grabbed our luggage from the back and dragged it the last quarter mile to the terminal.  As it turns out we are late, and to make it worse, my hubby has packed his carry-on bag with two of the small medieval suits of armor and the metal swords they have.  The ex-ray machines spots them and so back we go to check that bag also.  A few security people looked at us funny but we knew we weren’t going to do anything weird so we did what we had to do and ran for our plane.  We finally made it and got on board and only had to wait just a few minutes before the plane left the gates and rolled out.

The flight home included one stop in Detroit, where we had about an hour and a half layover.  Good thing it was long because from the area where we got off one plane to the area where we would get on the next was all the way across the airport, and we had to walk the whole way.  We bought a few cookies and snacks before boarding and it was a good thing we did.  It turned out that the flight from Detroit to Los Angeles served no meals or even snacks.

We arrived in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. and had to wait for our bags.  Then I called to get the hotel bus to come pick us up and they sent one from the wrong location, so we ended up at the wrong hotel.  It was nearly midnight by the time we got bused over to the correct hotel about eight miles away.

The next morning we were up and ready to head for home.  However, we had to wait for a while for our daughter to drive down from Visalia and she apparently ran into traffic.

We had lots to share with her and her boyfriend, but we were almost too tired to talk.  A thirty-five day trip is hard when you are so busy everyday.

It was sure good to be home!
