Street Markings of the old Scottsdale town
2 nights in Scottsdale, Arizona, yeah! (Well the Friday night was supposed to be in Phoenix, but my friend Dante decided to ditch me with no communication whatsoever). Have I mentioned the fact that I’m very, very spontaneous? In case I forgot, I’m. The down side to being spontaneous is that it sometimes drains my pocket. The outcome of my adventures are always priceless, I convince myself. You be the judge. The original idea was to spend the weekend in Phoenix with my newest TB buddy Jeffrey, also known as Dante (www.travbuddy.com/intacto), but as luck might have it that did not happen. From him needing to have his car serviced, to having no blanket for me to use, to his girlfriend need to be dropped somewhere, morning came and night fell and I did not hear from him.
I decided to call Adrian (www.travbuddy.com/acowboy), who reminded me that he did not know I was in town on Friday, but that we would meet Saturday :(, hmmmmmm! Thankful for all the friends and connections I have, my dear Adam was able to come get me and make for a beautiful sports evening at his Scottsdale apartment to which he only recently relocated. It was an OLYMPIC Friday night with lots of sports drinks, water, tea and more sports drinks (Adam is on this cleansing diet where he can not have any “carbs” - well Carbohydrates in case you are wondering). O’ Adam is not a TB, he is one of those friends who wonders what travel is when I talk about it (He is special that way, lol!).
Here it is, 'The West's Most Western Town', imagine that.
We watched Michael Phelps win the 7ths Olympic gold, and heard Schpitz honor his accomplishments and wish him well. We also watched dumb-founded as an unlikely competitor from Tunisia took the gold in the men’s 1500-meter swim (incredible).
If you are not a sports fan, just this once I encourage you to watch the Olympics, the games are incredible. All right, enough about the sports night, and back to my travels in Scottsdale. Did you know? That Scottsdale is the West's most Western town? Neither did I, well it is.It is so much so that they remind you of it buy engraving it on street benches. I sat on one and if felt western indeed, lol! O by the way, this is only in downtown Scottsdale, once you leave the down town area, it is no different than being in down town Phoenix with all the big city life mentality. The City of Scottsdale has done a great job preserving that western culture within the downtown area. Once you leave downtown Scottsdale, it is all modern buildings . . .
