This is me stressing by 6:30 pm because I had already made two rounds on Alma School Road
The long awaited mini meet up in Phoenix is happening at 7:30 p.m. at the Iguana Macks which Robyn (www.travbuddy.com/freespirit3) advised was somewhere in between Ray and Chandler. She took the trouble of giving me the address which I wrote down, later she text the same address on my phone and to all the others who were coming to the meet. The list included me (www.travbuddy.com/africancrab), Robyn (www.travbuddy.com/freespirit3), Jeff/Dante (www.
travbuddy.com/intacto), Adrian (www.travbuddy.com/acowboy), Keith and Dema were not sure as they had prior engagements (birthday party) and Krista (www.travbuddy.com/Kre0123) who wanted to come, not sure the out come of the meet. Ok, first I must say sorry to those who showed up, I did NOT despite the fact that I had my excitement build all day, only to be crushed. I started off by telling Robyn of a visiting friend from Casa Grande (well no friend really since I had never meet him before today). We agreed I would bring James to the meet up • I told James all about the TB thing and the meet up and how excited I was. James and I had had lunch in Ray at the Mexican Grill - ON THE BORDER. Having no computer to print a map (I rely heavily on maps when I go to Phoenix or anywhere else that I have not previously been to. Even though I have been to phoenix before, I have never actually been to Iguana Macks.
Does the stress show? yes the road can be a circle of frustration too: I was so directionally challenged that day.
I decided to ask the attendant at the restaurant for the simplest and easiest way to get to Iguana Macks. He said we should get back on the freeway and head west and exit 60 East towards Tempe and then take the Alma School exit which is exactly what James and I did. The address we were looking for was 1371 N Alma School; we started off south and headed north towards 1100 and then 1200. Then the signs kept indicating higher numbers 1500 N, 1600 N, but after the 1600 N, it lead to the boonies and an option to get onto the 202 loops North or South. On one occasion we actually drove past the 202 freeway underpass and headed on until we hit Scottsdale, he-he! While I laugh now, it was not funny yesterday, James was probably thinking, ‘what the hell did I get myself into’ boy o boy did we get lost. We re-traced our steps back and started again, this time everything looked ok until we found ourselves on the 202 South loop, the rest I hate to write because it is making me sad. To cut the whole sad story short, we did not make it and by 8:45 p.m. my cell was dead and I could not call anyone - all phone numbers are programmed in my cell. I will learn to keep numbers written and always carry a map. Could I have done more to get there? Well ya, but I was too exhausted from the day’s heat: hiking, sight seeing the old town of Scottsdale, driving to and from Scottsdale twice and spending two hours on the road trying to find Iguana Macks. Robyn dear, I did not ditch you, misfortune decided to visit me. Sorry, will make it up to you. I just couldn't get there, now I know better.
