Tyson Wells is the actual location of the annual Quartzsite flea market. Hundreds of vendors come from all over the nation and outside of the country (Mexico) to sell Gems and rarer goods . . . today I walked around the grounds watching vendors set up their stands in preparation for a 10 days long market beginning tomorrow Friday, Jan 16, 2009. I was facinated by the archeological finds that seemed so abundant on the market yet are rare to find: from Morocco, Solomon Islands, Argentina to mention but a few. A large display of Moroccan fossils, petrified wood, pre-historic reptile bones . . .
One of the Moroccan vendors I met recently specializes in collecting of Meteorites from Africa. I only found out recently that Africa is a possible location for some of the rarest meteorites, but because of the climate it is sometimes hard to excavate them unless one sees it dropping from above.
The Quartzsite show will soon transfer to Tucson, AZ where they will be part of the largest gem, mineral, fossil and rock show on earth. From Jan 30 through Mid February, Tucson will have the world's best display of raw minerals, gems, fossils and rocks coming out of the earth. It is the place to be if you are a bargain seeker.
