The 3rd Meet up on NYE - Moving Party - 4 days continuing!
29 December - 1 January, 2008
I heard about this NYE meet up few months ago from Wouter, the organizer! But i wasn't sure that I could join because I wanted to go somewhere during New Year. Then I got a silent feedback from my friends and I didn't want to travel alone on New Year. I waited until almost the last day to say to them that I could join!!! Wa hoo!
We got two pre meet-ups before. The first was on 29 December. I've met Wouter, Nid and Augustin at Central world plaza and drunk Tiger beer. It isn't my favourite one but the other parks are full ... but actaully Tiger beer isn't that bad na? :)
That night was crowded and we weren't so sure that would it be more crowded on NYE? But too late to change anything because the other people were told to meet up at CTW.
We were there until they closed. It was about
This time I asked Jane, Sandra and Eric my colleagues, to join us too. I was there about
!
Wouter (
Andy (US) who just back from traveling
Augustine (France) he's a friendly funny friend who spoke and smoke too much haha .. I think will take about three weeks to get your voice back! But was enjoy chatting with you and nice meeting you as well!
Chris (England) The big brother and the last man standing.
If you meet him, don't say hello but say "Drink, drink!" hehe and thanks for the hand language for those two fingers! :D
Joe (Philippines) joined us later - he didn't drink much that night because his stomach was full of insects :) They said it tastes good. You can find them easily at Kaosarn Road, you should try! Right Joe?! :)
Gaetan (Belgium) who made the colourful countdown for us with those spray bottles to celebrate the new year! :)
Dodge (Thailand) was the last one who came and hahaha .. she was one of the last (wo)men standing also .. Thanks Dodge for that night, those nights and this night! :)
After midnight, some of us got back home.
There were 5 people left. Chris never give up drinking :) Andy, Jane, Dodge and I were still enjoy the night with the learning of American, English, Philippino and Thai accents with the word "wa-er" (Water) and "to - die?" (Today) :D
Dodge can't go back home .. because she didn't eat before drinking .. quite drunk and she drove a car so would be better if she stayed here for a while then drive later or took a taxi back instead. But she insisted to drive back now. :D We can't let her do that .. We went to buddy bar to have coffee and soup. She told everyone to go back home and she would sit there until 6am to drive back. Who's gonna let you do that, sis? :) Then Andy offered Dodge to sleep in his place which is nearby. We agreed. So my soul sister ended up at Andy's place. Better to let her sleep there to take a nap and got out at 7am in the next morning :) Chris, Jane and I got back home to take a rest for a big day tomorrow!
24 confirmations but 20 came.
That isn't bad anyway. Wouter said the day before meetup he spent 5 hours to sent PM to everyone and to update the plan in the forum. Hard work but good job! Everyone I've met yesterday and new people today : Danila, a cute TB from Malaysia. We talked to each other since last month about where to stay and what to see. I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to take her around. I wish I could but I gotta meet my family on the next day. Rini (Indonesia) also. I wish I had spend time with you more! It's really nice meeting you again. I'd like to have a cup of ice chocolate with her before she got back home!!) I hope!
Rijo (US) I remember I talked to him a lot that night - the first "I'm Rijo from Guam" and the second "I'll take the picture for you all" :D:D
Big Jane (US) - big because there's another Jane and because big Jane called us "kids" :D
Aaron (US) - thankie thankie you bought us cigarettes for a new year gift and bought the battery for me and Jane.
Satochi (Japan) who's not a TB member yet but joined us tonight by Gerry. I was impress when I asked him "Do you think it's difficult to travel Japan alone? He said "You don't have to worry because you've got me now!" :D Thanks my friend!
Gerry (Philippines) a nice guy who didn't drink Singha beer but just taking the pictures, i'm waiting to see na!
Tony (Phillippines) who lives in the US and who can't eat spicy. I remember that the chicken green curry made his face turned red before the whisky in his hand. :D
Solai (India) the last person who joined us. I just knew that he lives in Bangkok. So why did you miss the first and the second meetups here???
And yes, thanks to little Jane (Philippines) She canceled another meetup to join us after she was attracted to our meetup hehe .
. I'm trying to ask her to join TB. But you can find her on FB also in my friendlist :)
At first we supposed to meet at Le Casbah but later changed to Nara Restaurant after Wouter and Augustin tried the food there. Le Casbah has a few menus of Thai food so they agreed to change to the next one - Nara Restaurant, a Thai restaurant. The meetup in Thailand so they should try Thai food, right?! :)
After dinner, most of us wanted to move to drink somewhere else. We aimed to the beer park down the CTW. But it was a NYE so there were a lot of people and all were fully booked. Think think think think think ... the last answer and final one was Kaosarn Road :)
For my opinion, maybe some people love that road and some people don't.
But for the meet up, KSR seems to be the nice place to hangout. You choose just one pub then you can sit, eat, drink and dance (if you find the nice one). We met up again at Silk Bar. Dodge went to check Gazebo but it's full. So we're at Silk bar until countdown. There were a lot of people on that street. In Thailand the center point to celebrate is at Central World Plaza. They close two streets nearby. The other famous are Silom Road and Kaosarn Road. Anyway wherever we were but it was nice to countdown together anyway.
After Silk bar some of us went to Gazebo. Some of us were lost. Some of us went back home. Me too. I don't feel to dance much but tired. I've been drinking 3 days continuing and I'm not a supergirl .. so I said bye bye and back home too. There were Solai, Chris, Jane, Dodge, Gaetan and Augie when I said bye. (Rini when did you go back?! Cambria was disappear but maybe I know where she was?? :D Satochi got lost, Jane and Danila were back, Andy, Aaron, Joe, Tony, Gerry where were you guys?? )
I walked about a half an hour to another street to find any vehicle that can take me home.
Taxi and Tuk Tuk drivers chose the customer and wanted to go just to the way they wanted to. I almost yelled at them but I was alone so better kept my mouth shut and continued walking. Then I found one Tuk Tuk. After explained the way to go back home and after bargained .. i had to pay about 200 THB wow! But I really wanted to go back so go go go!
There's no traffic until it's close to my home. One apartment around there was burning. It isn't nice really that it's happened on NYE. I got back ... about 2.20am and watched another news about another burning. Santika Bar at Sukhumwit - Akamai Road. Now they said 59 people are dead and 223 people are injured. I'm not happy for this news. But I am happy that we were not there.
I couldn't sleep. After trying to sleep I got a phone call from Augie. He said he lost his wallet and asked me to speak Thai to the guard at his apartment to open the door for him. Welll welll welll. I'm sorry for this but it's a new year gift to you - think positive!! :):):) Hope you can renew every cards soon!
And again thanks Wouter and Nid who organized this and thanks all who made it happened.
Hope to see you all again, maybe not in Bangkok but in your places. Would be nice to visit your countries! :)
p.s. Now, DAY 4. Dodge asked me out again for the Post meetup :D We went to meet Augie to help him about the lost wallet. I'd love to join them until the night as we promised we wouldn't drink any beer anymore but I had to have dinner with my family and they would kill me if I postponed again .. Then now i'm with mum, I don't know who joined. Dodge left message in the forum. I sent to some people .. Got sms from Danila that she just saw the message .. then asked "what about tomorrow?" I couldn't make it tomorrow too :( :( Rini, did you join the post meetup? ..
p.p.s. One hour ago while i was writing this blog I recieved a message from them saying that "You missed a lot of things tonight" ...
Oh .. lovely you!
:)
