The CRAZY Flight from Seattle to Juneau

Alaska Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Last minute trip on a whim to visit some friends in Juneau. Wanted to get away for a few days and "find myself" again....A chance to relax, re-evaluate priorities in life, and remind myself what is truly important.

The CRAZY Flight from Seattle to Juneau

OMG! What an interesting flight from Seattle to Juneau.  After sitting by myself on a half full plane to Seattle, I was on the completely booked sardine seat flight to Juneau!  It showed on the screen we were delayed about 10 minutes but they went ahead and boarded us so I thought SWEET, we are leaving on time afterall!  Uhhh, yeah..not so much! LOL.  We ended up sitting on the plane at the gate for over an hour!  At first, we were told the flight attendant staff had to be switched out and they were waiting for the new crew to arrive on a connecting flight - only another 10 minutes or so.  Ok....then the new flight attendant crew arrives and we are still sitting....and sitting....and sitting.  Turns out, we are missing a pilot too.

..hmm, rather important I suppose!

So, during this time, I start talking to the nice younger lady (Hannah) next to me.  We were entertaining ourselves with people watching on the plane.  First, it appears the girls one row up to our left hand the flight attendant a full barf bag.  Yeah, that's a first.  And then, "the one" appears.  You know there is always that "one" who knows everything and talking loudly.  Hmm....yeah, she was directly behind us of course.  It's amazing how much she knew about everything when in fact she probably knew nothing about anything! HA HA.  Her husband was away for several months of fishing and comments like "I told him to go make me some money" filled the air.  By the time our flight was finally ready for take off, we knew about her life, her financial situation, and some of medical ailments (of course, I think most of the plane knew them as well).

Being the nosy one, I kept turning around trying to figure out why we are still sitting there and I make eye contact with one of the scariest set of eyes ever.  I tell Hannah, OMG, there is a creepy "lurker" a few rows behind us.  Come to find out, lurker is sitting next to Hannah's grandfather!! LOL.  Every time we turned around, his eyes were intently focused on us....rather creepy.  Finally, he found some other females to occupy his stares as they sat there and drank a lot, all the while taking a million flash pics! He had a cowboy hat and he reminded me very much of "The Cowboy" character on the movie, The Life of David Gale.  And then there was the Gilligan show character who was next to the lady who chatted loudly.

The town of Juneau...at 10pm! LOL
Poor Hannah tried several times to get a pic of him with her camera phone but everytime she'd try, the overhead announcements would come on LOUDLY or he'd wake up on his own accord. HA HA.  And lastly, poor Hannah had to deal with the lady on her other side that ingested wayyyyyy too much garlic in her salad and as she fell over asleep (basically on Hannah's shoulder), we could both smell it - it was so incredibly strong!

So, trying to tune out all the noise, the flash, and the lurker, Hannah and I start talking more.  It was then that I had my first moment of feeling old...really old.  Hannah looked a little older than she actually is.  Turns out she is only 16 and her Mom is only 3 years older than me.

Me and Hannah
OMG....yeah, I am sitting here having a conversation with someone I could've raised.  WOW.  That was quite a hard dose of reality to swallow.  Hannah was such a fun person and I took a couple pics with her as I warned her she was now part of my blog! HA HA.  Her and I laughed so hard for most of the flight - it was great!

Hard to believe....I am finally in Juneau and it's 10:00pm and daylight still!! I grab my luggage, wish Hannah and her grandparents well, and I am off for the taxi line.
