The Christian Campus Center

My work at the Christian Campus center has got to be the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. As the Campus Minister, I am responsible for the spiritual growth of students on the Kilgore College Campus. Everyday I have the opportunity to meet with these students and share life experiences as well a future plans for their lives as well as the things in my life. I also teach Bible course each semester that averages about 16 students each for each class.

Each week we celebrate our relationship with God and each other. Monday evenings we have dinner parties with a special theme each week. These parties are so much fun and the kids come down and get a great home cooked meal and then we have some fun activities. The most popular events have been the karaoke and make your own pizza night.

Wednesday evenings we have another great meal before we have our worship service. We generally have about 25 students show up. I cook the meal and the students eat it and we all have a good time. Our International students have a great time on this evening as well as our local students. I generally give the message and they have been well received.  There have been many memorable events that have occurred during this time of discussion, but nothing that was ever very serious.

The highlight of the week at the Tri-C always occurs on Thursdays at 11am. This is the day we offer a free lunch for anyone who wants to stop by.

The most memorable day was when we invited Bo Pilgrim of Pilgrims Pride Chicken to come and be our special guest. If you are not familiar with whom he is, you must check out his website www.pilgrimspride.com when you get there, go to Bo’s world and check out all the games, commercials and jokes. It is fun. The best part of having Bo there was that after he speaks, he always gives people a little black book with the plan of salvation and a $20 bill. Yes, he gives everyone twenty bucks. Many students ate their chicken and grabbed their book and then decided to just leave it on the table. Once one student read the book and discovered there was money, you should have seen the reaction of others. Word quickly spread across campus and students began running across campus in pajamas and bed clothes although it was after 11:30am. We must have given away a couple of thousand dollars that day as well as served 100’s of pounds of fried chicken, which he paid for as well. This is the kind of fun we have at the Christian Campus Center.
