Eden Prairie Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Exploring my home state of Minnesota and all that it has to offer. Big, small, popular, off-the-wall and more. Land of 10,000 lakes, the greatest State Fair, home of Paul Bunyan, the world's largest ball of twine and much more.

Air Expo 2008

Today, another entry for my Explore Minnesota blog. This one was almost in my back yard. Only about a 10 minute drive away. I went to the Air Expo 2008 put on by Wings Of The North at the Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

See my Air Expo review for more.

Air Expo
The Air Expo at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota is a fun low-key air show. There is no parking on site and foot traffic is not permitted to enter the show or the airport. You have to park in a business parking lot a short distance away and take a bus that shuttles group back and forth every few minutes throughout the day. The bus drops you off right in front of the entrance and ticket booths. Admittance cost $10. Programs cost $3. I haven’t been to many air shows, but I’m guessing most are bigger and probably better than this one. However, it is still a fun expo with lots of vintage airplanes and interesting guests to see. The star of the show is the B-17 called The Yankee Lady. You can go on plane rides (including biplanes and jets) helicopter rides and even learn to fly at the expo. There is even some fun for kids with several inflatables for them to climb on and slide down or jump on, whatever the case may be. Several legends and heroes have booths as well as souvenirs and collectables. There are also plenty of food and beverage vendors with plenty of tents for shade or protection from the elements. Planes are constantly taking off and landing throughout the day. The show concludes with a flyby of the Missing Man Formation.

Ugh! We were staying in EP for our apparently too-short-weekend. Did get to see some of them fly overhead though...pretty neat.
