Final Port of Call

Victoria was our final stop, and once again, we were limited on time there.  We made port in the evening a couple hours before sunset and when we got off of the boat, we realized that the cruise lines were once again trying to rob us blind.

It was ‘suggested’ to us to use the shuttle bus they have to take us into town.  Well, seeing the line for the bus, we decided that it would be easier and faster to just take a taxi.  We hailed a cab and on the short ride into town talking with the cab driver he confirmed our suspicions.  The amount of money per person to take the shuttle is approximately the same amount for the cab ride into town, therefore making it less expensive for us to take a taxi!  Oh well…

When we got to town, we were dropped off across from the Empress Hotel and stopped to take some pictures.

Once again, being foiled by time, we couldn’t do the “high tea” at the hotel, so we took our pictures and started walking.

Since it was evening, we decided to find somewhere to eat dinner.  We headed down the main drag from The Empress and found a little pub down an alley that had some great fish and chips and offered up a great pint of Guinness.  At that point, I was very content and happy to be in Victoria!

After dinner, we strolled up the street and watched a live band performing on the sidewalk with what looked to be huge xylophones.  There were approximately 5-6 of these things that some of them had to be reached by standing on a bench.  It was one of the coolest things I had seen in quite a while.  We stayed there and watched them play for a while then continued on our walk.  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do much since we had to be back soon, so we headed back to the Empress Hotel to hail our cab back to the ship.
