Nomeward Bound - 2

Approaching Unalakleet on Norton Sound

We  lost more than an hour waiting on fuel but finally got on our way. The scenery never gets tiring in Alaska. After clearing the hills west of McGrath we crossed more flatlands. The tundra seemed to become more colorful with yellows and greens. Vast areas of burned spruce stretched in all directions and probably contributed to the lack of wildlife.

Unalakleet finally rolled into view and it was nice to see Norton Sound on the Bering sea fill our western horizon. We landed, refueled, then walked the beach into town to get a bite to eat. The only restaurant in town was the Peace on Earth pizza place. We had $12 sandwiches which included a small bag of chips and a dill pickle spear. Pepsis were $2 extra. We walked the dirt main street back to the airport and continued north along the coast.
