Kayaking!

My trip to New Zealand in 2006. South Island + Auckland

Kayaking!

2nd day on the south island. Adrian and I had planned to do some kayaking (Charlene and Andrea were lazy!). We woke up early and the guy from the kayaking company (i can't remember this name) fetched us from the backpackers at 8am in the morning to bring us to a beautiful, secluded beach.

By then, I was freezing to my toes because we had put on the wetsuit and hence, weren't wearing any other warm clothings. We carried the kayaks off the van, listened to the guy giving us a 5 minute crash course on how to kayak (which we already knew but oh well), hopped onto the kayak and off we went.

I shan't write too much because no words can describe how beautiful the place was. There was no one and you could almost hear the works of nature (i'm not kidding)-- the sound of the water... the birds.. the trees.. the sky (??).. ok you get the picture. We kayak-ed to a nearby island and took a break. We had some hot drinks and carrot cake. It was immensely comforting-- sipping a hot drink on a secluded beach in winter, surrounded by nature and the fresh morning air. :)

Abel Tasman was lovely :)

With all those rocks around, wasn't it dangerous that he gave you a 'crash' course? :^)
