I Like Your Juicy Dumplings!...You Have Tasty Mochi!
July 7, 2008
The long crazy night before really drained my energy but I got up out of bed somehow and made it to work...ON TIME...can you believe that?!? As soon as I logged onto Gmail on my work laptop, I opened a Gchat with Jenn and Joy and we tried to figure out what to do for tonight...we wanted something cheap but seriously delicious...juicy dumplings at Din Tai Fung Dumpling House was suggested...YES! The three of us got the ball rolling...texting Ragnar, Sheila, Rob, Alice, Karin, and others to see who was game for another evening out and what time worked best for everyone. Woo hoo...juicy dumplings!
I was the first one on the scene so I explored the stores nearby. Through the window of the store I was in, I saw Karin walking her bike. ..she looked pissed...and who wouldn't be after getting knocked to the pavement by a car driven by an unremorseful bitch. Thank goodness Karin was not injured. Joy and Rob arrived and the four of us perused the menu and marked what we want while waiting outside of the dumpling house.
Ragnar called and the directions I had texted to him seemed to be going in the wrong direction so I told Sheila to make a U-ie. About 15 minutes passed and Sheila and Ragnar should have been here by now?!? Ragnar called again...they were in El Monte!!!...OH NO!!!...they were going further away from us...so I told Sheila to make another U-ie and head towards the foothills towards the direction of the 210 Fwy. I felt so bad for the run around. ..oops my bad! I was so relieved when Ragnar and Sheila finally made it to Din Tai Fung.
Shortly after, we got called to our table and we all sat except for Jenn and Alice who had called me earlier that they would be late. It was somewhat fortunate that Ragnar and Sheila got "lost" because by the time our food was served up, both Jenn and Alice had joined us. The food at Din Tai Fung was served minutes after we sat down. We all were hungry because we eagerly dug in with our chopsticks to grab freshly steamed juicy pork, chicken, or fish dumplings. The juicy pork dumplings were the best because they had some hot soupy goodness locked into the dumpling. The hot and spicy soup was delicious...good choice Rob! The sauteed spinach and green beans were garlicky...yum! I loved eating family style...it made our dining experience interactive...and well...SHARING IS CARING!
I was thoroughly stuffed but Jenn wanted something sweet so we all strolled next door to Phoenix Bakery where Jenn got a boba tea and Karin got some sort of dessert made with mochi. Outside...the shenanigans ensued with Karin and Ragnar both trying to kick up their heels the highest not once...not twice...but THREE times...crazy peeps!
The night was still young and some of us had energy to burn...Pasadena here we come!
