Check out that road!
We'd made reservations for camping at Yosemite National Park but a quick look at the map learned that driving all the way to Yosemite from Las Vegas would be a bit too ambitious so we'd decided to stop over in Bishop, CA, about halfway. Luckily Tioga Pass into Yosemite had just opened the week before so we didn't need to make any changes to our itinerary.

We took the 'scenic route' to Bishop, through Death Valley National Park. Because of the long distance we had to travel we couldn't stop and look around in Death Valley as much as we'd liked to but we promised ourselves to check it all out on the way back. Funny enough, we'd read so much warnings about the heat but the day we passed through it was quite pleasant and we didn't need the airco in our car at all!

I think you're right on that one. It was a lot hotter when we returned via the same route. Of course, we just *had* to choose the return trip to go hiking! ;-) Good timing or what?!

Usually May is summer month but this year we had some of the wettest and coldest April, May and even some June weather anybody can remember. Next time Im sure you will have to turn on the air in Death Valley!
