Me on the horse and cart ride to Neuschwanstein
My 21st birthday. For my birthday I wanted to look around the inside of castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We bought "Kings Tickets" which allows you to see both and saves you a few euro. First we went on a tour of Hohenschwangau. It is a most enchanting castle. The tourguide was very funny too. Ludwigs bedroom was really sweet. The cieling is like a night sky and every night the servants would have to light the stars from behind, to make it glow. The whole place is magical, and I really enjoyed looking around it. Next we paid five euro for a horse and cart ride up to Neuschwanstein. The system of touring is very organised, but it was swarming with people. Not surprising for a Saturday in the summer. But it kind of ruined the experience for me.
Neuschwanstein
I knew it was going to be busy but not quite that busy. Our tour was huge and the tour had to be exactly on time so as not to clash with the one just ahead or behind it. There was a woman who signed up for the English tour yet didn't speak very good English, and she kept complaining and asking the tourguide to speak slower. They had an argument and you could tell the tour guide's patience was being tried. I was surprised, but I preferred the inside of Hohenschwangau, probably because it was completed. There are about 17 empty unfinished rooms in Neuschwanstein, which I imagine are quite spooky. Afterwards we walked down to Marienbrucke, the bridge which offers arguably the best view of Neuschwanstein. After this we caught a bus back to the centre of Fussen and went to find somewhere to get dinner. It was annoying, but I wished I did what we'd done on the 25th on my birthday, I definitely would have enjoyed it more.
