Myself and Keoni in front of Linderhof Castle.
We started the day by getting breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Not having many distinguishing features other than my height (6'3") I don't standout much in Germany. Being half German by decent doesn't hurt. I had walked in ahead of my buddy, Keoni. The restaurant was bustling and noisy with chatter. But when my he walked in, it was like someone stood up and said "Alright everybody, this is a robbery!" I was looking at a menu , back turned, when I noticed it had gotten quiet in the room. I turned to see what had happened and saw every face in the room turned looking straight at Keoni! Now, being Fillipino by decent, he didn't look like anyone else in the room, but I couldn't figure out what this was all about? I could see he was feeling a little overwhelmed, so I walked over and motioned him to a booth looking out onto the town.
Private chapel on the grounds.
Chatter started up again, but folks kept stealing glances as we ate. We had noticed a young couple on the almost empty train to Oberammagau, looking at him as well. Surely they had seen Asian or Pacific Islanders in this town before. But at some point we heard the name, "Jackie Chan" and we started laughing. Now I don't think he looks anything like Jackie Chan, but his hairstyle, posture, build and height were about right at the time. They thought they were in the presence of a movie star! After a good laugh, we found a tour office and bought tickets to go to Linderhof Castle. This is a neat place, now being the second time there. We took lots of photos and asked a couple young women there if they'd take or picture in front of the castle.
The Venus Temple.
That's where we met Cindy and Paula. Cindy was a young Asian-American from San Francisco on holiday while working abroad in the front office of an asphault company in Finland. Paula was a lassie from Scotland who was between jobs but traveling. They had met up while traveling through Germany. We all started conversations and soon were thick as thieves. We had arrived on the same bus so we went through the tour and walked the large grounds together. We then caught lunch at the Linderhof Inn which is a really nice place with a large outdoor seating area. We enjoyed our meal and talked about our travels. After the tour, they hung with us and we took them on a little tour of town since they had only just arrived. We had dinner at a little Italian place and shared pineapple pizza and bottle of white wine. They were staying at the hostel in town, but we were moving on. We grabbed our gear and they walked us to the train station, said our goodbyes and were off to Bruxelles.
