Pelourinho Square
May 10, 2008
Narrow and steep cobble stone streets; colorful shops selling artsy gifts, funky clothing and refreshing drinks; Capoeira performers showing off their skills; colonial style houses and churches; Afro Brazilian music pouring out from the clubs; Spicy Brazilian cuisine and children laughing and running in skimpy flip flops barely describes the tip of the iceberg of what it was like to wander these historic and vivid streets.
Pelourinho Sq is probably one of the most touristic places in Salvador to visit besides its beaches. Its history and architectural design dates back to early colonialism by the portuguese and is often used as the center for many cultural events such as the Salvador's Carnival, live outdoor local music, and festivals celebrating the million plus holidays celebrated by the Brazilians.
Its fun, colorful and something new every night.
