Capetown and beyond
The trip to South Africa was just amazing. I had a great opportunity to do some mission work with a couple local churches as well as meet up with some friends. I went on this adventure with 6 others from Texas, Tenn and Ala. We started at this really beautiful town of Picketberg. This was a town full of opposites. A town full of those who have and those who don't have. There was wealth and then there was poverty. There was beauty and then there was just, well, not beauty.
The purpose of this site was to begin to involve children in the church. We planned a fun day at the park. Over 260 children showed up to play games, sing songs and have a meal. It was awsome. Prior to the big Saturday event, we walked the neighborhood inviting the children to attend.
Met some fun and interesting characters. The beauty of God is that His Word transends all cultures, languages and obsticals. As we walked the children would follow. They wanted to dance for you, tell you a word they new or just mention a superstar from America. I quickly became known as Beonce' ex husband. I at one time was Usher and a host of other mega stars. This seemed to bring a laugh to all the kids because they knew it wasn't true. Wow.
Some of the photos and videos can't even begin to capture the spirit of these people. The one thing, they had a lot of.
It was also very interesting as we drove to the top of the city, meaning a bit of higher ground, that the sounds became quieter and the people were a bit more reserved. the streets were cleaner, the cars newer and the buildings and homes larger.
the school children wore neatly pressed uniforms on the top of the hill and their activities were more organized but the kids at the bottom seemed to enjoy their rugby game in the middle of the street and al the other games like the merry go round made for about ten that they more than 40 on.I also had a chance to visit the Waterfront. The Vand A was an amazing shopping experience. Reminded me of San Francisco or San Diego, CA. Spent lots of money here on food and anything else I could get my hands on. The birds would actually swoop down and take food right off of your plates. It only happened once, I promise you. There were some amazing views ans I tried to capture all of them, and then I remembered that people actually get paid to take amazing views and so I opted for some postcards.
We did make it to Table Mountain, finally. The weather makes a big differnceif you get to go up. The ride and the views were spectacular.
The winelands had to be the best. Met up with Hannes and enjoyed some good wine, some great food and some outsanding conversation.
Various other exciting things happened and will be included in other blogs.
