Return to Paradise Point
After my historical walking tour, I met up with Susan, Drew and Julia. It was now about 1:30 p.m. and time to return to the port area from Charlotte Amalie. The taxi ride back took us by various interesting sights including the court complex, an island Wendy's, and a housing block.
Havensight Mall is a shopping area fashioned from former dockside warehouses. Taxis drop you off here and you must walk through the shops to return to the pier and the ship. Before going back, Julia and I were ready to repeat our trip up to Paradise Point via the aerial tramway (St. Thomas Skyride). We tried to persuade Susan and Drew to go along this time, but again they demurred. So, Julia and I headed across the street to the tramway.
It's very hot and close in the cable car cabins, but the view is spectacular as you rise above the the port and the vista across the harbor unfolds. This was a Sunday, and the lookout at Paradise Point was not as active as it had been the year before. No live music this time. Fewer people around. So, we had the magnificent view mostly to ourselves. It was a bit earlier in the afternoon and I could see that was an adantage for photos. I'd say the earlier you are there the better the sun angles. In a short time, we rode the return cable car and then returned to the ship. Carnival Miracle sailed at 4:00 p.m. A bit later, as we sailed among the outlying islands, a beautfiul Caribbean sunset could be seen.
