Whirlwind tour of Rome

Finished work later than expected on Tuesday and made it down to Rome in time to check into the hotel (Hotel Fontana at Piazza di Trevi) eat dinner, take a quick walk over to the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, then back to the hotel to crash. The hotel was quaint - a little scary at first - but ended up really liking it other than the tiny bathroom (I'm not a small person and it was hard to move in the shower without turning the water off, or re-adjusting the temperature - finally discovered that there was a second drain in the middle of the bathroom floor and stopped worrying about making a mess). It was also right across the piazza (more of a street) from Trevi fountain. It was fantastic to walk out of the front door of the hotel and have Trevi right in front of you and the fountain is amazing although the area around it is really small and packed with people from around noon onto well after midnight.
Only having one day, Beth and I struck o8ut with a plan on Wednesday. Both of us had been to
At this point it was getting close to and we struck out to find a bar that one of Beth's relatives suggested that we visit for lunch. Never found the place, but we did stop for lunch at a cafe on the edge of the Forum and Capital Hill. It was a nice place to sit in the shade and take a break. Being quite happy with ourselves for having covered so much of the city in under 4 hours, we decided to go back to the hotel and chill (literally - just wanted to put our feet up and sit in air-conditioning for a while) for an hour or so. The afternoon pace was much slower going back to Piazza del Popolo to see it in day light and people watch for a while. Around we went back to Piazza Navona to eat dinner and enjoy the early-evening night life. Then to the hotel to pack and get ready for an early flight home.
