La Fonda de La Calle Real

A trip to Guatemala and Belize
La Fonda de la Calle Real: very popular
La Fonda is popular with both locals and visitors and for good reason.
It has an extensive menu of mostly local dishes for reasonable prices.
There are two 'Fonda's' opposite one another on 5a Ave., serving the
same menu. One seems small but you can sit on the second floor.
The other has a nice courtyard (which is also the smoking area).
The Caldo real (chicken soup) is great for lunch and you get a big
bowl of it. For dinner we had the 'De todo un poco', consisting
of different meats and sides. I loved the grilled spring onions as a
side-dish or appetizer! This one I will certainly try making at home! The typical Mayan soup Cak Iq was a bit on the heavy side (for me at
least).
A piece of trivia: this place was featured on a segment of Survivor Guatemala, and even better, president Clinton once ate here! They have a pic of him at the entrance of the restaurant.
La fonda entrance on 5a.
