Partying in Heidelberg... yay...ahem...yawn.
August 23, 2008
So, I went to Heidelberg to visit my friend, who studies and lives there... well, actually she lives in Eppelheim, which is not very exciting, but I'll still post pictures. So, on the evening I arrived my friend had planned a big night out, to show me how much partying you can do in this town of students. I've been there before, before I joined travbuddy, obviously, otherwise I would have posted a review or something and I will do this, this time. Well, we went to Nachtschicht last time, which is near the railstation and went to the old city this time... my night out was a bit overshadowed though, because after 5 hours trainride from Salzburg to Heidelberg I was seriously tired, especially since I had to get up at like 5:30 to catch the train. And then there was also constantly arguments going on, between the couple present and also their friends, that were totally useless too, because they were on the phone and about where we would be going... Once again I was very glad to be single.
Well, when we finally all came up with some sort of plan, we drove to the Havana, which I will review below, so no point saying anything about it. Then my friends boyfriend went home with his friend, to play playstation... Hah, what? Instead of partying? Well, we went out with the rest of the gang, who all refused to be photographed. We went to i-punkt, which apparently was supposed to be THE dancing and partying spot in the inner city. We had to go behind the famous Hauptstrasse and past a lot of bars... the funny part was, that it we met so many hen parties, it was nearly getting spooky. Then to i-punkt, which was just a bar and though we danced first, I was still in a bad mood and the music became worse and worse, beside my having the feeling of being chaperoned by the guys who were with us.
So we left and were thinking of going home, so we went down Hauptstraße, only to be hit on by three irish guys, who were actually hanging out in front of an irish pub called Dubliners. We made a bit of fun of them, because of it, but my friend didn't want to go, because the music wasn't good in there either, so we went on. Sadly, because I have a soft spot for irish guys, even though these were drunk.
Well, my friends bf offered to bring us home, since he was already bringing his friend home and we had a meal at McD's till he came...
It was a bit of a "yay-awn"-night.

A bit expensive, but very stylish and tasty
The Havana is a Restaurant, a cocktail-bar and a Salsa-club. Obviously, the setting is in cuban-style and the barkeepers looked very latin to me. The music was a pop-mix. I didn't really go downstairs to the Salsa-club, because I am not a Salsa-dancer, but it did look good.
I thought it was just about two euros too much for everything, but its such a pretty setting, in an old building and a really beautiful garden. There are also tables set up in the garden, but when I was there it was pretty cold, sadly. But the view over the river is great too. Maybe worth paying two euros more.
The cocktails get an okay ranking from me, even though my own Caipi was excellent, the mojitos weren't really as fresh. We also ate a Rollito there, which was really good and with fresh vegetables.
The loo was clean and heated, which says a lot about a location. I only later on learned that it was part of a developing chain, which I really didn't notice, because it was so nice.
As far as I know, they also cater for weddings, if that interests anyone.
Oh, and which I also learned too late, when I went back to photograph it, that is, they have a brunch from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sundays for a cheap 7,50. I wish I had known, but when I came, it was just past two.1

A fun party-place with a nice mix of music
This is a club in a big hall, with its own dj floating above the dancers. The interior is okay-decorated, but since its pretty dark, except for the disco-lights, who cares? Besides it has a stair-like dancefloor, so you can dance on different levels and also on a wooden balcony. The best thing about this is, that people actually dance!
Behind the DJ-balcony, there is a lounge area, which is more quiet and comfortable and also has its own small bar. We sat there between the dancing and talked. You can also go outside and walk around the open space a bit.
The drinks were average-priced and the music was a good mix between electronic and normal dance-music and some evergreens, in the Cindy Lauper section. Sadly, there was no food.
The people were mostly in their twenties.
I dare say, this is the place to go for some real clubbing in Heidelberg.
Oh, and don't forget to bring your ID, they are pretty strict with that.

I-Punkt, small bar, with okay music
The I-Punkt is a bar/cafe in the old centre of Heidelberg. Its located in Untere Strasse, which seemed to be THE bar and partyzone, with rows of bars.
The drinks were okay and average priced. A tequila-shot cost 3 euros. The drink of choice seemed to be "buckets", Sangria, a bit watered though.
When we got there first, there was normal dance-evergreens, Scooter and remixes, but later on they switched to german songs, of the sing-a-long kind. People were dancing. Ideal, if you know german and are drunk. Being sober, everyone but me thought it was great music.
The people there are in their twenties, but usually arrive in groups.
The decor is barlike and the toilets were amazingly clean. Its pretty full on Saturdays. The bouncers are nice.
